About Abe Lenstra Stadion

Construction began in 1993 and Prince Willem-Alexander opened the Heerenveen ground in August 1994, when the home side met PSV Eindhoven. Named after the forward Abe Lenstra, it started with roughly 14,500 places before a 2002 rebuild almost doubled that figure; later additions lifted the total to 27,224. Repeated expansion proposals in 2011 and 2012 stalled on cost. The stadium staged a match in the 2024 UEFA Women's Nations League Finals.
